INTERVIEW TIPS

BE PREPARED - BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

We all know how stressful and scary interviews can be. You don’t know what hiring managers are going to ask, how much you should know about the company and so many other things.

Before you start getting all worked up, take a deep breath and remember that ultimately, if it is meant to be, it will be.

1. Use Google to Your Advantage, Research the Company & Industry

You have all the answers on the world-wide-web right at your fingertips. Use it. Do your homework on the company and industry, it will help prepare you for the questions the interviewer will be asking you. Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer questions that you find relevant to the positions or industry, it will demonstrate that you know about the company and industry. Remember, there’s no excuse for a lack of preparation, especially in the digital age. You’ll have some peace of mind knowing you looked up everything you could.

2. Be prepared!

Don’t wait till the last minute to prepare for the interview! Most times that will just built-up anxiety which will through you off your game, be sure to get your clothing together and be sure to have a nice crisp new notepad and pen on hand for taking notes, don’t forget to jot down any questions you may have for the employer

3. Let’s talk Interview Attire

Ensure your interview attire is neat and appropriate for the type of company and industry you are applying for, ensuring that your hair is neat and clean and that you are dressed for success will increase your confidence which will do wonders for you in the interview! All piecing’s and tattoos should ideally be removed or covered for the interview, it’s the time for your experiences, knowledge and smarts to take centre stage.

4. Be on time!

We are sure you know this one but we thought we would just slip it in there, we all have those moments when we know we are going to be late, whether it be the kids just aren’t getting in the car, the car just didn’t want to start or the taxi in front of you just had to stop at every chance he could! Take the time to drop the Recruitment Consultant a message, try to keep it simple, just state that you will be a few minutes late and that you do apologize.

5. Develop a connection

In an interview situation, it is easy to forget that your interview is a normal person just like you, they have had to be interviewed before, they had to put their shoes on one foot at a time this morning just like you! Make small talk, crack a joke and be interested in what they are saying. Ultimately, building up a rapport with the interviewer may well yup your chance of getting hired!

6. Learn how to listen

We’ve all done this before; the interviewer is talking, and we’ve been so busy trying to convey a certain message and image to the interview that we have completed lost everything they have said! Make sure that you pay attention to the interview and don’t let your mind trail off! After all the art of conversation lies in knowing how to listen so, don’t just rehearse your answers to questions like, “can you tell me about yourself?” “why do you want this job?” and “what are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?” Practice listening carefully and closely without interrupting.

7. Body Language

This one is an important one, most people don’t even realize that they are sending messages to an interview just sitting across from them. Ensuring that you are open and interested in the interview goes beyond verbal conversation, remember that when in an interview you want to keep your body relaxed, it is never a good idea to sit or stand with your arms crossed, it closes you off and makes you look unapproachable, try not to lean into the interviewer with your elbows on the table, ensuring that you are sitting with your lower back directly on the back of the chair and that your posture is upright with your hand on your lap will give you a power position that is approachable. Try not to fidget too much as it shows a great deal about your current state of nerve. Eye contact couldn’t be more important when your interview is talking to you keep eye contact it shows confidence and interest.

Finally, you’ve got this!

Stay cool, calm and collected, you got this!

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."
