Detailed or Condensed?

When it comes to doing your Curriculum Vitae it can be difficult, some companies requested long detailed CV’s and others ask for short to the point CV. So out suggestion is taking the time to make both. Keep in mind that your CV is the first impression that an employer gets of you so there is no reason to believe that you are spending to much time on it.

Tell your story

Think of your CV as a marketing document, it is selling you as a perfect candidate. It is a good idea to remember that when applying for a particular position, remember it is important to keep a record of all positions that you have held, but when it comes to applying for a particular position it is important to highlight and provide information on relevant experience.

The key is in the detail

Remember to add:

• Name & Surname

• Nicknames

• Identity Number

• Gender

• Area Residing

• Contact information (Cellphone, email and WhatsApp)

• Home Language and Others Spoken

• Drivers License and code

• Education (Qualification, Year Completed & Subjects)

• Further Education (College / Courses)

• Relevant program experience

• Name of Company

• Position Held

• Duties / Responsibilities

• Dates Employed (Ensuring you list both month and years)

• Reason for leaving (More detail the better)

 • References (Ensuing never to add current employer unless otherwise stated)

Keep it reversed

List your most recent positions first, it makes it a lot easier to read

Formatting

Keep it simple, when it comes to text remember to keep it plan. Stay away from cursive, bold, italics or colourful texts, keep it to fonts such as- Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri Light etc.. Keep your text to no smaller than 11 never bigger than 12 unless it is a heading. When it comes to saving your document always ensure that it is either saved as a Word document or as a PDF. Don’t be afraid to play around with different templates available both on Word and online, they can be great at giving you a solid starting point!

Order of content

Have you ever wondered how to place your information on your CV?

1. Motivational Letter

2. Personal Information

3. Educational Information

4. Further Education

5. Work History

6. References

7. Certificates / Documentation (If required)

Give ‘em the numbers!

If you are in a position were figures are prevalent don’t be frightened to add them into your CV, by quantifying your accomplishments, you really allow the hiring manager to picture the level of work or responsibility you needed to achieve them.

Name Your File Smartly
